Great pics and video - love them!
It seems Fernando is quietly confident of a good result (even a win)
, but we really won't know till the race begins. After all these months of waiting the season is finally upon us, and after after 2 years in uncompetitive machinery, Fernando gets what seems to be a competitive car.
I've written two articles on Fernando Alonso - check them out: http://formula-1.suite101.com/article.cf...ari_rumors, and http://formula-1.suite101.com/article.cf...nd_ferrari. Of course I wrote these articles long time ago, just wanted to show you all. I'll be writing more as the season progresses.

Yes it is the system, that flopped in Singapore 2008, but they brought it back because they need every advantage they can get in timing the pitstops. To get the tyres changed and send the drive out as soon as possible. Its is still very much in the hands of a human being, it can still mess up for any team.

There goes any chance of a race win then
Why, Ferrari, why???

Why, Ferrari, why???

Many are using it now, Mclaren, Mercedes GP etc but of course each of them will have different internal FSM code so their reliability and operational methods are different.

It seem many have brought it back. It is assuming faster to show a light than flip a lollypop. Is a time matter. But this is still is human operated if the human make mistake in pressing green too early it can be dangerous and disastrous with a wheel loose to something. So i expect more drama

The light system from Ferrari won't have the same problem the 2008 one did, it's been advanced.

Its not problem of the system its the problem of the user. Ferrari claimed their fuel nozzle is connected to these lights and when the release button for the rig as triggered they will have removed the hose by then. In Singapore 2008 something failed and the green light was given before the hose was fully disengaged from the nozzel. But they also had a mechanic who could manually operate these lights should he wish to and he could have switched it off the moment he saw the crew were not ready to release massa. Not paying attenion? Could be.
He can also press it in panic, that can happen even now. With a lollipop you can quickly flip it and its right in your face. A light is less receptive to the human brain in terms of visual reception. Studies have been carried out on this by road safety departments and they found out that from a pool of 1000 plus subjects, large signs boards work better than an light system.
The same applies to these tiny tights that the mechanic can press by mistake, still look at it and not realize the error he just committed. This is typical lapse in brain reception to certain weak stimuli. Its the way the human brain perceives certain objects or things compared to other objects. Just cant get rid of certain human reactions to certain stimuli. You can see here Massa merely followed what he saw, he saw green and he took off. Nothing the driver can do.
Now in 2010 the lights are again completely in the hands of a mechanic, there is no refueling nozzle to trigger it. More room for jumping the gun due to pressure. We will definitely see more fumbles only this time with loose wheels. The only way to eliminate this is to have these electronic means banned for good, the good old lollipop man is the most effective and responsive measure to any dangers that may present themselves during a stop.

While i believe they say it has already been advance i truly hope the user who control it will not doing anymore mistake.
