RE: Various F1 winter news
Lewis Hamilton may get behind the wheel of Tony Stewart's NASCAR car later this year - but it will be a promotional event, not a change of career.
Hamilton and Stewart are in talks about swapping cars at Watkins Glen in the summer as part of a promotional event for a mutual sponsor, although for now it's talk and not fact. "It's an event that potentially we will be doing," Hamilton told Reuters. The McLaren driver revealed that he recently did some filming with Stewart, which brought up the subject of a car swap. "It was like 'You can't even drive those things. What is it? It's a tin top, like a can. "He was like 'What is that? You can't even see over the steering wheel, you're like a child'. It was cool." But should the plan go ahead it won't be the start of a change of career for the 2008 World Champion. "I'm not massively interested in it, to be honest. I saw the steering wheel and it didn't look spectacular," Hamilton said of Stewart's Number 14 Chevrolet Impala. "It's not very hi-tech, I would say. I've got a huge amount of respect still for the drivers though." --- I don't like Lewis but finally someone said it NASCAR is boring compared to F1

RE: Various F1 winter news
Few know the secrets of the new Ferrari from Fernando Alonso as Marc Gené , Ferrari tester for seven years. Catalan, this course will discuss the Formula 1 in La Sexta , told 20 minutes what the expectations in Maranello in the absence of 15 days to start the World Cup.
What feelings has left the Ferrari 150 º Italy in the tests? It's a car that was born well and it is essential for not going to tow the rest of the year, although many technical innovations is difficult to know where we really are. What is your strength? We have worked hard reliability. And we were strong in that area last season, so we've seen in the tests, I think will be again. And the weak? I hope none. If you have any ... bad. Is Red Bull seem to have wings again this year? Yes, all teams talk a lot about them and it is evident that very fast, but also talk about Ferrari and that's good. It's a car that was born well and it is essential for not going to tow the rest of the year Hamilton said the other day that the new McLaren can not win the World Cup, is it a bluff? Could be, but usually when a bluff will not say such powerful things. Everyone complains about the degradation of the new Pirelli, but Ferrari said in 2010 to keep up the tires, can benefit you this year? I think modest benefit because it will force teams to make more pit stops and this increases the uncertainty. A tire with 15 laps is torn and is four seconds slower than a new one, that is barbaric. How long took Ferrari to forget the fiasco of the UAE? It was a shock because, frankly, we thought we would win the World Cup. The good news is that the F1 all happens very quickly and within two weeks and was forgotten. I assure you that no one now talks of Abu Dhabi Ferrari. Did any president Montezemolo cry? ![]() ![]() (Laughs) No, no screams. So things are not fixed. Sebastian Vettel keeps saying that he would be a Ferrari driver, would you go on the computer? It is the dream of all pilots and anyone who says otherwise is lying. Vettel is a world champion and all the great drivers fit into Ferrari. What would fit with Alonso? No reason to think not, but we must not forget that Felipe Massa is Ferrari to be a second fiddle. Wants to be champion and I see very strong this year. The team is happy with it. How is Fernando in the day to day in Maranello? It is a great leader and his involvement is total. Simulator ago, put up the car ... it works sometimes not nice to do. Ferrari has, no doubt, with a pilot that our competitors do not have. Last year was incredible careers with a lower car. How do you like the idea of creating artificial rain on the track? All pilots are totally against. The race results would be false.

RE: Various F1 winter news
'BBC consider abandoning F1 coverage'
Monday 14th March 2011 Planetf1.com Although the BBC only took over Formula One coverage in 2009, the broadcaster is reportedly considering scrapping their deal as they need to save £600m annually. The Beep is having to deal with a licence fee freeze, forcing the company to look at various ways to cut costs. Sport is set to be hit hard with BBC's senior management reportedly targeting Formula One and Wimbledon. 'Senior managers drawing up cost-saving options have alighted on the £40m-a-year motor racing deal and the long-running tennis coverage as ways in which the BBC could help achieve a £600m annual saving targeted for 2014,' claims The Guardian. The newspaper added that Formula One, for which the BBC brought the rights back in 2009, 'is not peak-time programming, and as a result is viewed as a relatively expensive part of the sports schedule. 'Having been on ITV as recently as 2008, the sport is not seen as a mainstay of the BBC calendar.' The BBC, though, have refused to comment on the reports. A spokesman said: "We are looking at a range of ideas and it would be wrong to comment on what is speculation." The idea to scrap Formula One has already been welcomed by the Guardian's Peter Preston, who apparently believes that everything about the sport from Bernie Ecclestone's millions to saving the planet to Lewis Hamilton's 'Swiss tax exile' are just wrong. "Why on earth should your (and my) licence fee keep Bernie Ecclestone and, until recently, Max Mosley in the manner accustomed?" he wrote. "How, as the planet warms, do we justify flying tons of heavy metal from Rio to Kuala Lumpur in order, once a fortnight, to send them gas-guzzling and carbon-emitting round yet another ring of concrete? "The whole notion is a simple affront to anyone who even vaguely registers climate change. It's a suicide note we underwrite year after year. Let Bernie (and Lewis, in his Swiss tax exile) knock on somebody else's door." --- OMG! What am I going to do?! I don't have SKYSPORTS...or F1 could move back to ITV, with advertisements every 10 minutes and no practise sessions on tv....this is serious, I wont be able to watch F1

ECEMBER 14, 2011
Torro Rosso dumps current drivers and signs Ricciardo and Vergne Scurderia Toro Rosso has announced an all new driver lineup of Australian Daniel Ricciardo and Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne for 2012. Both drivers came through the Red Bull Junior Driver programme, and will replace the duo of Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari - leaving both without drives for next season. Toro Rosso said the decision was taken in conjunction with Red Bull. Some see the move as giving the two young drivers a proper try-out, in order to see if either shows enough promise to replace Mark Webber at Red Bull for the 2013 season. Ricciardo drove for Toro Rosso in friday practice sessions early in the season before being placed at HRT. He won the 2008 Formula Renault 2.0 Championship, and the 2009 British F3 championship. Vergne won the 2010 British F3 championship and was second in this year's Renault 3.5 series. Team Principal Franz Tost said, "I am pleased that we have been able to reach an early decision on our drivers for next year, because it means we can all give our full attention to 2012, without any distractions. Over the past year, both Daniel and Jean-Eric have proved their worth and I expect them to make a significant contribution to the team's performance next year. Daniel has the benefit of having actually raced in Grands Prix for much of this year, while Jean-Eric proved he could adapt quickly to the demands of driving a Formula 1 car. As they have both worked with the team and its engineers very recently, this should allow us to get up to speed right from the start of winter testing in a couple of months time. I must also thank Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari for all their hard work over the past three seasons. They have delivered some excellent performances which have helped the team move forward and develop. We wish them well for the future. However, one has to remember that when Scuderia Toro Rosso was established in 2005, it was done so with the intention of providing a first step into Formula 1 for the youngsters in the Red Bull Junior Driver programme. It is therefore part of the team's culture to change its driver line-up from time to time in order to achieve this goal." ![]() Daniel Ricciardo said, "This is a really big deal for me and something I have wanted ever since I was driving for Toro Rosso on Friday mornings at the races in the first part of last season. To be honest, I am still jumping up and down with excitement at the news. In the second half of 2011 I learned a lot from the people I worked with, racing in eleven Grands Prix and I want to thank them for the opportunity they gave me. I have to say that joining Scuderia Toro Rosso was always my real goal, so a big thank you to Red Bull for giving me this fantastic opportunity and now I can't wait to get to work once testing begins." Jean-Eric Vergne said, "First of all, I must thank Red Bull for all their support so far and for believing I am ready to take on the ultimate challenge of racing in Formula 1. Christmas has come early for me this year! Having driven for them a few times this year and also testing for Red Bull Racing in Abu Dhabi, I definitely feel ready to make the move, even if I know there is a big difference between testing and actually racing. I enjoyed working with the guys at Toro Rosso this year and I can't wait to be part of the team for real. Sitting on the grid in Melbourne next March cannot come soon enough." Source |

Ferrari would like to have Newey at their team. He might bring fresh ideas to that team. But read at the end Montezemolo's answer.
