Multideck diffuser sneak peak for F1 2010 season

There is a trend emerging in terms of how the multideck diffusers will be in 2010.

Some of the teams have been trying out these ideas. A very BrawnGPesque like concept.

Early season Brawn diffuser




As you can see in the picture below, the center line is going for a 'V' shape as this gives the part that is closest to the ground more downforce as the air exits whilst still maintaining a fair amount of venturi generated downforce on the middle of the car ahead of the rear structure.

Renault



Toro Rosso



Vodafone Mcliars





And this from Mclaren is their 2010 concept test (tried towards the end of the 2009 season), interesting top structure designed to slow down air even more before it exits there by generating more pressure.

The gaping hole that we see here has more room to have surface area generating planes, but this one is more enlarged, looks slightly illegal as it maybe beyond specified boundaries. But everyone is free to test anything. It only becomes a problem if it remains the same for the season opener at 2010.


Ferrari



Ferrari mean while are experimenting with verticle planes to split the exiting air. Not much change to their diffusers yet or should we say they haven't brought out their ideas to test yet.



Brawn/Mercedes GP




Brawn's case is interesting they seem to be not focusing on the diffusers much and trying out Redbull style compromised diffusers. It is still multideck but not as robust as the ones others are pursuing. This could hint they are trying a pull rod rear suspension for 2010, although this is not the route to go ideally. Expectations are that pull-rod suspensions will be abandoned for most aggressive multi-deck diffuser concepts.

ross brawn will have something new for sure and the FIA will see it as very legal!!

Brawn will be cheating with something and you can bet 2 other teams will have convientally thought of the same thing aswell.

As it is harder for the FIA to ban whatever it is on 3 teams than it is to ban 1 team.

Look at last year 3 teams thought or the same thing at the same time and 2 teams were back teams strange how the front teams wernt told of the double difusser?

Interesting points here. looks like all the top teams are focusing on quite little different thing. While they have to think about to make their car fast, they have to think about the refueling ban , so it is quite a tricky season i would say.

Yeah , that stunt the FIA pulled last year was meant to empower the private Teams since they dont have the backbone to oppose the FIA on certain issues.
Sides they love the whole idea of standard engines , transmissions and so on....like a beefed up GP2 series. So strangely the Teams in trouble all got a positive reply from the FIA concerning the DD. Renault , Ferrari and McLaren (all Teams who were playing hardball with that Whipster Mosley) SOMEHOW got the opposite reply from the FIA. Now isnt that a coincedence?

That was 1 dirty trick . Well it worked , they got the Big Boys to quit ( xept Ferrari n McLaren) and were able to implement 4 the future the salary cap.
Im anxious to see whether 2010 will turn out to be as corrupt as 2009 was. Lets see what the FIA will do next year.... i hope they will keep it on the downlow...

Indeed the whole multi-deck diffuser area was used by the FIA a political means to destabilize the FOTA.
