Robert Kubica is set to leave hospital within the next 10 days to begin the next phase of the rehabilitation process that he hopes will get him back into Formula 1.

The Pole has been at the Santa Corona hospital in Italy since the rally crash in February that left him with serious arm and leg injuries.

Speaking to the official Renault F1 website on Thursday, Kubica said that he intends to return home to Monaco soon - before moving to the Formula Medicine clinic in Italy to continue his recovery.

"I am starting to feel a lot better now. My recovery is moving in the right direction: my strength and weight are increasing day on day and as a result I will leave the Santa Corona hospital very soon," he said. "I don't have a precise date as yet but I hope to be able to leave within the next 10 days.

"The mobility of my hand is limited but this is pretty normal in this kind of situation, because the connected arm muscles are still very weak due to the long period of immobility. Things are definitely improving day by day."

He added: "As soon as I leave hospital, I'll head to my home in Monaco for a short period of rest. Then I'll move to Dr. Ceccarelli's facilities in Italy where I will start a deep rehabilitation program and a preliminary soft training programme. The two programmes will gradually cross over based on the speed of my recovery."

Kubica has said that he has kept in touch with his Renault outfit throughout the opening weekends of the season – and he is hopeful that the team will continue to improve on its strong early form.

"They are sending me the race reports so I can remain up to date and fully informed, as if I were there at the tracks. Eric Boullier is also in constant contact, keeping up to date with my general condition.

"There is no doubt that it's been a strong start to the season. The potential of the car, which I already noticed in the February Valencia test, seems to be confirmed. As usual, it's now important that the development done in Enstone continues to produce consistent updates for maintaining this level of performance. The guys did a great job with this car and I'm sure they'll continue to improve."

When asked if he had a message for fans, Kubica said: "Well, just continue to enjoy the F1 show even though I'm not there at the moment. From my side, I'll try to use my difficult experience to come back as strong as I possibly can."

There seems some sort of argument going on between renault and Kubica's management. Lopez saying that he will not be back in 2011 to race and his manager Daniele Morelli claiming he could be back for racing.

Surely a partially severed hand already recovered to have super fast reflexes in such a short period of time? We know F1 drivers are exceptionally fit and trained to be so, but they are not the incredible hulk to heal in a jiffy from such a harsh accident.

There could be ulterior motives here for ether sides. Kubica's management might be feeling Nick Heidfeld is gaining a foot hold in the team and wants to put and end to that. Lopez must be finding ways to prevent Kubica from returning this year in-order to have Nick in the team atleast until the end of 2011. That would mean Nick is definitely a pay driver. If not, there is no incentive to hold on to him when they can have someone like Kubica. Atleast it wouldn't harm them financially to give kubica a try now would it? Unless of course Nick is bringing in the money but kubica is being paid the money.

Whether a recovering kubica is any bit as ready as his former self is entirely another matter though.

Or is this is in any way a sort of a charade to wiggle out of their contracts? Not many top teams out there where he can go to either. His next step has to be a top class team, either Mclaren, Ferrari or redbull. Nothing less. Money was on him heading over to Ferrari but with Alonso slotted in until 2016 it seems unlikely ( but you never know even alonso's new extension is a strange one). Mclaren is almost certainly out of the picture, they are signing up Button on a new long term. Kubica wouldn't be interested in playing Alonso part 2, he abhors the color pimping shit anyway. Webber is not planning to retire or go anywhere anytime soon. He will win races again this year and all this talk of him being out of form will end with it.

The reasons why this is strange is because usually one would expect them to be least bothered about a race return so soon. His recovery would be the first and only concern at this time for all people concerned. Yet there they are, arguing over when he will return. Somethings up.

Close jenni it's called a "crutch"...apparently he's able to walk without the crutch but I guess they don't want him to put too much strain on the leg until it's fully healed

Some news from Kubica. Seems like he is going pretty well and they expect him to return some time soon, don't know when though.

There is still no concrete date for Kubica's return, but his rehabilitation is progressing nicely and he intends to be back in an F1 car by next year at the latest. In a Q&A with fans on the Renault website, he revealed that he was recovering well.

"Mentally, no problem at all," he said when asked how he is feeling. "Physically, I am still a bit weak but my general condition is quite good. My weight has now returned to its normal level and for a few weeks I've been able to walk without help. All in all I feel pretty well."

He added: "I am satisfied with how things are proceeding. The improvement is in line with the expectations, and luckily there are no complications that could affect the recovery time. It is still too early to have a clear picture for the timing of my return but the important thing is the final outcome not the hurry."

Asked if he would return stronger, Kubica said: "Let's hope so! But in reality I don't see why, because I think I will be back exactly the way I was."

As for whether the accident affected his racing psyche, he added: "I don't have any memory of the accident, and I am just aware of the consequences it had. So, to me, it's as if it never happened."

Renault boss Eric Boullier recently said Kubica's race seat is open to him whenever he is ready, be it this year or next year, and Kubica is looking forward to his return to the team.

"I'm a Lotus Renault GP driver," he said. "Of course, I'm missing not being able to drive this season but I feel that my job in Enstone isn't finished yet."
