Fernando signed with Ferrari until 2016

"It is a great pleasure to have renewed our agreement with a driver who has always demonstrated a winning mentality even in the most difficult circumstances," he said. "Fernando has all the required qualities, both technically and personally to play a leading role in the history of Ferrari and I hope he will be enriching it with further wins very soon."

Glad to know we still have years to see Fernando racing.

While its good he will be here in F1 for a long time, signing such a long term deal without knowing how things will change in regulations and pecking order is foolish. And I doubt he is that foolish, this so called extension will be with get out clauses.

Long term F1 deals are useless, things change and your options must also change.

Huh? Why did Fernando wants to extend it now? I thought he would still want to wait and see? But then again I remember he once said Ferrari will be the last team in his career

I am quite surprised his contract has been extended in only his 2nd year. Obviously Santander are sticking with Ferrari long term.

That would be just an assumption, they can change plans and Philip Morris or anyone else can fill in the pay rolls. Infact they haven't said anything about the extension or their own plans.

Any sponsor is in it only until it makes business sense, if its not working out business wise their shareholders will be the first to ask out of the deal.

Papers will claim anything. it doesn't need an expert or any source to realize 2016 is just too far out and anything can happen between now and then. No one signs contracts these days without clauses that affords the driver options to consider leaving if the team cant deliver.

He added: "I have to say it was a very easy decision for us. We started talking one or two weeks ago about the future and both of us wanted to continue. I was happy with the team and they seemed to be happy with me as well, so we said 'okay, we make an extension of the contract'.

"We agreed to 2016, and everything is more clear for us, for the team members and for everyone to have stability. It was a decision from both parts."

Although the two-time champion admitted it was impossible to tell how successful he will be at Ferrari, he feels he is at the best team to achieve more championship glory.

"F1 is impossible to predict and it is impossible to predict about wining championships even before you started. For sure I am in the best team possible to fight for world championships. Some other teams go up and down, they have good years and bad years.

"At Ferrari in the worst years you finish second or third in the world championship so this is something Ferrari can offer to a driver."

There is the laughable talk of the pig being taken up by Ferrari, the bastard stefano goat should watch his filthy mouth. Getting moaners and slow losers is definitely the best to wreck Alonso's chance whatever is left of it.

The good thing is Alonso's extension will have clauses for him to get out if Ferrari goes nuts and gets a new brishit sponsor to go along with a shamilton deal. SO he can avoid "Shamilon's sponsor is faster than you, Alonso can you confirm?"

I'm guessing he wishes he was paid that much per year No, I think they mean that between now and 2016 he will earn around 150 million and of that he'll pay 50 million

Atleast he is trying to become a model citizen for Spaniards, and an example for others who run way to save tax money. Now if these people donate what they save in tax money to big charities and causes, then by all means they are justified in staying away at tax havens like Switzerland.
