While this news was out for a while, the seriousness has become more profound with allegations of far more specific nature about the recent Lotus windtunnel model that Gascoye consulted on while it was designed by Fondtech

The term copying is rather vague and totally incorrect many a time.

For a recent example When Redbull first introduced the the shark dorsal fin engine cover extension for rear wing directed airflow control, the rest of the teams one by one copied this. There was no exchange of windtunnel data or schematics, they just openly copied the concept and made their own custom designs. They are all engineers they know what a designs is meant to do without even seeing the data from the simulations or windtunnel. After all they all came from the same core course work and the academics, one mechanical engineer can understand the basic idea of another mechanical engineer's concepts without seeing the pertinent data.

The same has happened here with Lotus's first windtunnel test design, people who worked with force India previously namely Mike Gascoyne can easily come up with the same concepts once again since he did the same a while back for force india. He has his hand in Force India's development program in the past that will never chance no matter how much Force India hates it.

It must be noted if I gave you the design schematics and you designed the car for the slightly changed new regulations of 2010, even if it looks the same the performance characteristics in the windtunnel and numbers will be unique and definitely different.

The only rather alarming allegation is that of the windtunnel tyres, alleged to have been the same ones used by force india, how did it end up at Lotus?

If that part of the allegation is clarified and negated the rest of the accusations are pointless, copying of technology happens all the time, there is no need for actual technology transfer to ever happen.

Force India should have thought about all this before they fired Gascoyne. He will make lotus a decent team, Mike Gascoyne is an accomplished engineer if not the amongst the best. His problems with authority maybe an issue for the management but his skills are never in doubt.

Aerolab rubbishes data-passing reports

Sources suggested that Force India's senior management have been alarmed by the similarities between its old car and the Lotus's wind-tunnel model, of which the team released pictures last month.

Aerolab, however, has moved to deny any suggestions that it passed on car-design information to Lotus.

Furthermore, the company said it is taking legal action against Force India for "serious and persistent breaches of contract".

"It is quite unusual for us to comment on negative matters but we have been given no other choice but to make public the facts after press reports in recent days suggested that Aerolab has passed on information to parent company Fondtech which enjoys a close technical relationship with Lotus F1 Racing," said Aerolab's managing director Jean-Claude Migeot.

"These rumours are designed only to tarnish the company's reputation and professionalism and to divert attention away from the facts.

"The truth is that Aerolab is suing Force India for not fulfilling its obligations."

Aerolab said its legal case was still pending and subject to review.

This is getting ridiculous now what next you driver is a clone of our driver.

Well if you designed a car a few years ago and the concept and dsign is sound then wouldnt you use the same concept and design for your own team, I would.

As tension said it is going to get ugly and and more they did we did will be flying around for the next few months if not even into the season next year.

Aerolab joins forces with Lotus

Quote:Aerolab, an aerodynamic engineering company, has confirmed a new partnership deal with the Lotus Formula 1 team.

The deal will see Aerolab and parent-company Fondtech help the new Norfolk-based team in the design and development of next year's car.

"I am also confident in the potential of our team as well as the future synergy between Lotus F1 Racing, Fondtech and Aerolab."

The company has previously worked with Toyota, Renault and Force India in Formula 1.

"It's great to be working alongside Jean-Claude and his staff again," said Lotus technical chief Mike Gascoyne.

"The teams I've been involved with before unquestionably benefited from Aerolab's resources and know-how so it was an easy decision on my part to renew that relationship when it came to Lotus F1 Racing.

Together, I'm hopeful of producing a competitive package that will compare favourably against the established order in 2010."

Tony makes some interesting analogies about how it is going to be with Mike Gascoyne around. It is true he has radical idea every time and not all of them go down well with idiotic management with no vision or intellect to understand them, like Toyota and Force India.

But his take on new teams and new faces, that will depend on how good their new signings are, signing shits like Jaime Crash-guru-suaris or Jose maria Lopezs wont help. For Lotus's sake they have two superb drivers in Trulli and Hekkie. He forgets every new team is not in Lotus's position at the moment on that front.

Disagree with Tony there, whats the use with new team? if all the shit engineer are there with all shit car and parts? in the end its call shit team also. New faces? what kind of new faces? If they have a team and car like Mclaren / ferrari ya then new faces might bring some joy, just like the pig his first year with Mclaren.but for lotus? oh boy what a comment.
