Australian GP Free Practice 1, 2 and 3
Time are close to the pole of 2009. These times will get faster, but its the sign that the aggressive diffusers are enabling teams to run lower wings than in the past and still achieve the balance needed to beat or match 2009 pole times.

RE: Australian GP Free Practice 1, 2 and 3
![]() The Mclaren have focused on the qualifying pace to correct their grave setup mistakes in bahrain and they are quick but Redbull has some more reserve. Got to hand it to the shoe, he seemed to be dicy and giving it all. Not bad, not bad geezer not bad at all. Ferrari along with Vettel were obviously on a race trim program, but Ferrari attempts at low fuel runs in 1st practice were no match for mclaren either way. So you think mcheaters have Ferrari beat in qually trim.. interesting (I did notice the Ferrari's were always held up when they tried a flyer)

Yes in the best clean runs they had they were still quite a way off, they are about 0.6-0.7 secs off pace to Mclarens, but this will be the margin to Redbulls in the actual qualifying. It remains to be seen if Mclaren will really take the fight to Redbull.

RE: Australian GP Free Practice 1, 2 and 3
Call me cynical, but it wouldn't surprise me if Ferrari were sandbagging again.
Nando has been muy vocal about the Red Bulls and McLaren being faster than SF, I remember Kimi saying the same in 2007 in Turkey and Australia so maybe, just maybe, there'll be a surprise in quali tomorrow. I know I know, I'm just being too optimistic!!! ![]() Siempre.......... |

RE: Australian GP Free Practice 1, 2 and 3
![]() Webber and redbull supreme they are merely showing when they need to. Mclaren seemed to have peaked and Mercedes looks much more powerful around here and a threat to Ferrari easily. But in qualifying things can change with a slight change in setups and front/rear suspension tweaks for any team. But redbull is supreme. RE: Australian GP Free Practice 1, 2 and 3
Mclaren maybe firing their race engineers very soon, they have kept way too low downforce. The Mclaren where easily 6-8 Kphs faster on the straights to their nearest competitors. They have to be really a bunch of bafoons to do the same mistake twice as they did in Bahrain, this is not the car being slow its a the choice in setup that is making such increase in pace on the straights. The stall duct system wasnt working wonders in friday practice, but all of a sudden in 3rd practice "it is". This is hardly the reality.
If they are not fools, they may have been merely testing how it is to go low on downforce, because that car was definitely under tweaked from the optimal. There was definitely a change in the aero set-up in practice and in quali - we all know that Jenson is a much better driver technically bit Hammy has the speed, so why the huge differential? ![]() Siempre.......... |

Technical interest from the driver is fine and more than welcomed, but driver being able to influence how the setups are done is over hyped and exaggerated. They can only request based on what they feel and the engineers have to do the rest. Button may have been precise in what he needed and his crew sorted it out for him, but Shamilton must have also mentioned what he felt but his crew couldnt do what he wanted, car limitations? Maybe. Or shamilton is giving wrong info on what he really feels. Giving the wrong interpretation of a feeling can mislead the crew. You can't obviously say you think your heel hurts if your knee is the one really hurting. The top speeds have come down in qualifying, so I was right they were indeed playing around with low downforce on both cars just to test things out.
